Jump Math Resources
Dear Parents,
Currently we are working through unit on Fractions which includes adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, order of operations, and word problems. I am using a combination of textbook activities (Math Focus 7) and Jump Math 8.1 (for enrichment). Jump Math is a non-profit organization that provides solid math resources. I have included a link to the Jump Math website. All background resources are available on-line and accessible for you and your children. You have the option of signing up for the website's services which require no financial requirement and from there you can access all the (very comprehensive) teacher resources.

Saskatoon Zoo Visit and Bat Habitat Tour (Special Thanks to Sherry McIntosh!)
On the afternoon of October 2nd, our class visited the Saskatoon Zoo and Forestry Farm (www.saskatoonzoosociety.ca). Sherry McIntosh (Jackson`s mother), took our class on a tour of the bat habitat teaching the students about all of the different elements needed to plan and maintain a healthy habitat. The students learned about the necessity of appropriate light periods, bat metabolism, temperature and general climate needs. Sherry even allowed the students inside the exhibit giving them a chance to get up close and interact with the habitat and animals. Our class extends a very special thank you to Sherry for this amazing opportunity.
Our Wanuskewin Trip & Thanks to Muveddet Al-Katib
On September 24th our class had the opportunity to tour Wanuskewin Heritage Park (www.wanuskewin.com). We learned about First Nations` technology and how the local groups adapted to the climate. We also toured the local site which has been frequented by Indigenous groups for at least the last 6,000 years. Towards the end of the day, the students had the chance to learn about and participate in traditional First Nations` games.
During our trip to Wanuskewin, local artist Mrs. Muveddet Al-Katib and mother of Karem, led our group through a landscape art project. Our class would like to extend a special thank you to her for organizing and leading our class in this project. You can learn more about Mrs. Al-Katib`s work at www.muveddetalkatib.com.

Prairie Habitat Garden
As part of our life science unit on ecosystems and biomes, we visited the University of Saskatchewan Prairie Habitat Garden located next to the College of Education. Here we were able to examine a naturalized area of prairie and contrast it with developed areas. The students noted the significant difference in sounds, life, smells, and aesthetics of the contrasting areas. A special thank you to Dr. Janet McVittie for providing a tour. More information can be found at the following website: http://www.usask.ca/education/prairiehabitatgarden/
Thank you to Mr. Gregory Hardy!
Recently, Gregory Hardy, a local artist, spoke at length about the role of place in his artwork, and the work of the Group of Seven, which the students were able to apply to a landscape art project. You can find more information about Greg's work on his website gregoryhardy.com.
